Their begining is with the canal in YouTube by Luke Hemmings called "Hemmo1996" where he was uploading covers. His first cover was "Please Don't Go".
On April 2011 year Michael Clifford and Calum Hood, have joined and they call the band 5 Seconds of Summer. The name came to Michael Clifford.
The months passed and they realized that the band didn't have a battery. Calum played the bass, Luke and Michael the guitar. For common friend they met Ashton Irwin (he was in a band before, but it desintegrated) and he joined them.
They continued doing covers and played in the street.
For his great talent and also thanks to the fans, they called the attention of the record stamp Sony/ATV, signed a contract with them and threw his first song for his channel of youtube, called Gotta get out, which was received well in his country, Australia.
In May of 2012 they gave the dates of concerts to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
They had a tour called Twenty Twelve tour, in that they sang the songs of his EP, Unplugged, Gotta Get Out, I miss you (Blink-182 cover), Too Late and Jasey Rae.
His popularity originated when Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson from One Direction, liked his music and they suggested to make the mundial tour Take Me Home with them of the support band.
On November of 2013 they announced that the signed with the discography Capitol Records.
They have her own discography Hi or Hey Recods.
They don't like to be call boyband, they exlain that they aren't a boyband because the play her instruments.
